Centre for Innovation, CEWAS has initiated a research study on filter media develop by using burnt coconut shells which is a locally available material that can be used in Rapid Gravity Filters. Innovative filter media shall enhance the filter performance through longer filter runs with higher filtration rates. The study aims to increase the treated water output with lower energy for back-washing compared to existing rapid sand filters.
The research is conducted by the Chief Engineer (R&D) G. S. D Chanaka and supervised by Prof. J.M.A.Manathunga (University of Moratuwa) and Dr. Mrs. Wasantha Illangasinghe (Director- CEWAS).
