The National Water Supply & Drainage Board will proudly host the International Water Conference – Sri Lanka (IWC, SL- 2023) from 14th to 15th December 2023 under the main theme titled as ‘Accelerating change to solve the water & sanitation crisis’ at the world class residential training and conferencing center with state-of-the-art facilities, namely, Centre of Excellence for Water & Sanitation (cewas) located in Ratmalana, Colombo, Sri Lanka.
This International Conference will bring together water professionals, foreign delegates, International Organizations, government officials and media etc. and provide insights into the research, latest trends in best practices and cutting edge technologies which will gain immense interest with water professionals, young, adept researchers, and university academia for knowledge sharing and networking.
The 8th Annual Research & Development (R&D) Symposium of the National Water Supply & Drainage Board will also be conducted simultaneously with the International Water Conference, 2023. The Main Conference comprises Inauguration Ceremony, Expert sessions, Business Forums, R&D Symposium with technical sessions followed by field visits. The field visits are scheduled to take place on 16th December 2023.
The R&D Symposium has already called for papers from the NWSDB professionals as well as local and international water sector utilities, link agencies and related departments on the nexus for resolving water and sanitation issues. The symposium will explore topics through a series of Research and Development presentations, Industry presentations, case study presentations, and panel discussions.
The IWC, SL- 2022 which was executed successfully brought together lot of knowledge sharing, networking, research, development, expert sessions, business forums, R&D technical sessions, and the exhibition with financial, logistics support as well as expert assistance from ADB, EU, JICA, World Bank, UNDP, UNICEF, CAS, IHE – Delft and Korea Eximbank etc.
In addition, the Business Forums will allow space and create insightful discussions on sustainable solutions for renewable energy, climate change adaptation in the global warming context, water management etc. It is expected to invite our partner agencies as key players, decisions makers and change drivers to address trending topics, explore business & investment opportunities and collaborate on the forefront of the water and sanitation industry.
These all will be premised on the four pillars declared by Sri Lankan President to drive economic growth leading to the country’s national transformation roadmap, namely, (i) Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ii) Automation and Smart Water Technologies (iii) Public Private Partnership and (iv) Water & Sanitation sector policy reforms.
This approach includes mainly;
- Promoting green coverage, climate change adaptation, climate resilience, carbon credit and renewable energy
- Leveraging automation and digitalization, smart water technologies for cost reduction
- Public Private Partnership (PPP) as investment promotion for Infrastructure financing
- Water & Sanitation sector policy reforms
